Here’s a negotiation tactic police have probably never tried before. Officers were in the middle of a standoff with a teen in Dunedin, Florida, last week when a drunk, naked woman drove a golf cart through the scene.
Her name is Jessica Smith and she’s 28 years old. She had nothing to do with the six-hour standoff, in which 18-year-old Myles Abbott fired a gun at several people before climbing onto a roof, but she apparently had one too many drinks and felt like taking a ride on the wild side around midnight.
She rolled through the law enforcement perimeter and blazed past several squads before officers finally managed to pull her from the golf cart and handcuffed her in her birthday suit.
“(Smith) had a distinct odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from her… and she was completely nude,” an affidavit read. “(Her) actions and inability to follow directions put multiple deputies at risk for potentially getting shot at.”
She was charged with resisting an officer without violence while the teen was charged with loitering and prowling, aggravated assault against a law enforcement officer, weapons charges and resisting an officer without violence. It’s hard to say who’s the bigger douchebag here, but we’d bet anything the cops are reevaluating their de-escalation procedures thanks to Smith. After all, if anything can get a teen boy off a roof, a naked woman would be it.
