Meanwhile in New York: Homeless Man Sets Fire to Fox News Christmas Tree (Finally, An Alternative to the Yule Log Video)

Here’s one way to make a headline. A homeless man set fire to Fox News’ so-called Christmas tree this week.

The conservative news network has apparently redefined what constitutes that essential holiday symbol; it doesn’t use anything from nature (makes sense, we suppose, given how pro-climate-change they are) but rather a 50-foot “metal superstructure” in the shape of an Evergreen to represent Jesus’ birth.

But enough about Fox’s blasphemous excuse for greenery, which is as empty as the network’s content. A brave soul showed his displeasure for it – and/or for the network’s skewed reportage – by stuffing a bunch of papers into the structure and setting them on fire. After climbing down to the street level, he stood back and watched it all burn. (Good man.)

It was around 12:15 a.m. when a security guard noticed the blaze-setter and ratted him out to cops patrolling near Rockefeller Center. That’s when the arsonist was taken into custody. He was later identified as 49-year-old Craig Tamanaha and charged with criminal mischief, reckless endangerment, arson, criminal nuisance, endangering others, criminal trespass, criminal tampering and disorderly conduct.

Fox has promised to rebuild the tree, which suffered $500K in damage. The original featured 10,000 glass ornaments, 100,000 lights, and took over 21 hours to assemble.

Here’s a thought: how about replacing your cold, lifeless sculpture with an actual living tree? And while you’re out there in the woods looking for something to chop down, see if you can find your soul.
