Meanwhile in Fast Food: McDonald’s Turning Iconic McRib Into an NFT, Still Will Find a Way to Ruin Your Gastro Track

Like Punxsutawney Phil creeping out to peep his shadow (or missing it completely), it feels like the McDonald’s McRib sandwich comes back only once per year now. It’s eagerly awaited just like the Pennsylvania-based groundhog’s fuzzy forecast. And, fans of rib-shaped meat, barbecue sauce, and white onions should be pretty happy because that time is now. The McRib is officially back at participating McDonald’s locations throughout the US and it’s bringing something special along with it to celebrate the iconic sandwiches’ fortieth anniversary.

Instead of simply re-launching the popular sandwich, the well-known burger chain is also creating its first NFT (or non-fungible token). For those still unaware of what an NFT is, it’s unique data that’s stored on a digital ledger using blockchain technology to verify its authenticity. It’s been used so people can own specific memes, trading cards, and other pieces of digital art.

In McDonald’s’ case, beginning earlier this week, the chain began giving away McRib-themed NFTs through its Twitter page. There are only ten available and while you don’t need to purchase anything to get one, you do need to have a working crypto wallet.

For more details, follow the link in the above Tweet. The chain is giving away the McRib-themed NFTs from now until November 12. So, if you’re one of the many McRib lovers out there, you can soon enjoy the magic of this iconic sandwich every day of the year and not just when it’s re-added to the menu annually.
