Kansas City police arrested a teenager and charged him with first degree involuntary manslaughter after he ran over and killed his friend with his car Sunday morning. What makes the crime more bizarre is that, following the killing, Mustoe went inside the house, ran into some dry wall, and went to bed.

The kid says it’s all because of mushrooms.

Jacob David Mustoe, 17, told KCPD he was high on psilocybin mushrooms when he purposely drove into Jake Wehmeyer’s house, killing his friend in the process. He also told investigators that the two got into an intense argument that included throwing billiard pool balls at one another.

Police were called to the house around 4 a.m. when they saw Mustoe’s vehicle sitting through a closed garage door and Wehmeyer under the vehicle in the driveway. According to police documents there was also “evidence of a struggle” with holes in the walls and blood on the basement and first floors of the home.

It was Mustoe’s mother who called police after her son came home and told her that Wehmeyer needed help.

Below is how the alleged argument escalated.

Mustoe stormed out of the home, walked to get his vehicle from his home and drove into the direction of Wehmeyer’s house.

Mustoe told police he thought “everything would be okay” even if he hit the house, per the probable cause statement.

As he drove toward the house, the victim came outside and stood in the yard trying to tell him to stop. Mustoe struck him, according to the probable cause statement.

Mustoe told police he then went inside of the home and passed out. When he woke up, he realized he struck his friend and ran to neighbor’s house to get help.

According to the probable cause statement, Mustoe began to destroy the property inside of the home and ran into a wall of drywall.

Mustoe’s bond has been set at $200,000. He’s facing 3 to ten years in prison.
