The Batman hasn’t even been in theater for a month, but we’re already getting deleted scenes from the film. The scene in question is one between Robert Pattinson’s Batman and none other than the clown prince of crime himself — The Joker.
Even before The Batman came out, we pretty much knew that Barry Keoghan would be playing the Joker in some capacity. While the Joker’s screentime is limited in The Batman, it turns out that Keoghan’s Joker originally had a larger presence in the plot. The deleted clip was uncovered by internet sleuths who uncovered the scene via rataalada.com, which is a viral website used for the movie’s marketing campaign. The scene in question happens before Batman arrests Paul Dano’s Riddler in the film, which eventually leads to the final showdown.

As you can see, it’s pretty obvious why director Matt Reeves decided to cut this scene from the film. It’s not that Keoghan isn’t good as the Joker, but rather that the movie simply didn’t need him. The movie was already long enough, and including this unnecessary scene with the Joker would have simply been overkill. Fun Fact: this is the first Batman movie to feature Joker, Riddler, Penguin, and Catwoman in the same film since the 1966 version.
If anything, this deleted scene from The Batman proves that it’s time to introduce some new villains from Batman’s extensive gallery of rogues. The primary villains have pretty much all been done, so it’s time to inject some new blood into the movies. From The Court of Owls and Hugo Strange to Man-Bat and Clayface, there’s plenty of new ground still to cover. Let’s shake it up a bit and just let the Joke be a tertiary player for once.
The Batman is currently in theaters and grapples hooks onto HBO Max on April 19.
