‘The Batman’ Releases Official Images of Riddler and Penguin, Proving Money Is Tight For Everyone Right Now

The Batman is undoubtedly one of 2022’s biggest blockbusters. A lot has been said about Matt Reeves’ new reboot of the caped crusader. Suffice to say, every bit of this movie looks amazing. In anticipation of the film’s release, Warner Bros has released the first official images of the film’s two main antagonists, The Riddler and The Penguin.

While the Batman films are notorious for their elaborate costumes, Reeves seems to be taking a more simplified approach to these iconic characters. At the very least, these new images prove that money is tight for everyone right now — even the costume department a $100 million blockbuster. The first image, which features an unrecognizable Colin Farrell as the Penguin, is essentially a walking Oscar campaign for Best Make-up. They clearly put more money into that than the costumes.

The Second image features Paul Dano’s riddler, which was heavily inspired by serial killers of the past. While this is more of a subtle, realistic take on the character, there’s always a little more room for spandex. It’s almost as if the Zodiac failed an audition for Slipknot and just decided to keep the costume and become a serial killer instead.

In all seriousness, Paul Dano looks to be absolutely menacing in the role and we can’t wait to see his interpretation of the character. Along with Dano and Ferrell, the film features an all-star cast that includes Robert Pattinson, Zoe Kravitz, Andy Serkis, Peter Sarsgaard, and Jeffrey Wright. In addition to directing, Reeves also wrote the script with Peter Craig. The film is intended to be a standalone story with no connection to the long-dead DCEUThe Batman currently flies into theaters on March 4, 2022.
