Dapper Laughs Banned from Appearance at a University for Being a Sexist Prick

Dapper Laughs, the “comedian” who has proven to be hugely popular on social networking sites such as Facebook and Vine thanks to his particular blend of misogynistic humour, has been banned from an upcoming appearance at Cardiff University after students petitioned against it.

The petition was signed by over 700 students, with its organiser Vicky Chandler saying: “It’s been a hard campaign and we’ve received a lot of abuse from a minority of people but we are really happy we’ve been listened to.

“Hopefully in the long run people will see that they can stand up about things they believe in and their voice will be heard. It’s been so great to see so many people standing up and supporting us. It’s started a talk about feminism and sexism on campus that I hope will continue.”

Dapper Laughs’ videos typically revolve around him making crude comments to women on the street and shouting his signature catchphrase “proper moist”, which has somehow garnered him 79 million Vine views, 1.6 million ‘Likes’ of his Facebook page and 360,000 Twitter followers. He also tried his hand at stand-up comedy, and it really has to be seen to be believed:

Just think, there are people who actually paid to watch him perform that routine.

Regardless of his decided lack of comedic value, ITV2 decided to give him his own show anyway. On The Pull shows Dapper meeting a variety of men who are having trouble attracting women, before he teaches them how to be more successful with the ladies by aggressively flirting with people waiting at bus stops.

Speaking of the petition to prevent Dapper Laughs from performing at the uni, Cardiff University Students’ Union president Elliot Howells said: “Over the last few days we have been canvassing students views on this issues and they have overwhelmingly told us they don’t want him here.

“It was always my personal view that this gig shouldn’t go ahead. This gig will not go ahead and similar performers will not be welcomed at our venues. We have looked at our policies and will make sure this kind of thing doesn’t happen again.

“The views of Dapper Laughs go against our policies and everything we stand for.”
