Mandatory Food: Air-Fried Banana Split Is Your New Go-To Summer Dessert (See How to Make It in This Viral TikTok)

Summer is here and it’s hot AF no matter where you live in the U.S. When the mercury rises, no one in their right mind is going to turn on an oven or even the stovetop to whip up something delicious to eat. But when the world gets uncomfortably hot (thanks, climate crisis!), you’re still going to want — nay, need — comfort food. That’s where a new trending dessert called the air-fried banana split comes in. The video recipe has gone viral on TikTok, and for good reason — it’s downright bananas.

We have @thejenjones to thank for this mouthwatering creation. She used to be a singer, but the pandemic forced her to pursue another passion: food. Because of family members’ health issues, she ventured into a plant-based diet and started experimenting with recipes. She’s since amassed a healthy following on TikTok, and shares recipes for everything from no-pork baked beans to red pepper pineapple juice.

But what you’re here for today is the air-friend banana split, we know. Because if you have to eat a plant-based diet, you’re going to be miserable most of the time, except when it comes to dessert. Plus, like we said, it’s summer and you’d be an idiot to bake anything in smothering humidity.

The process of prepping this cavity-inducing treat is simple. You start by slitting an unpeeled banana, with the slit facing up and the peel still in-tact on the bottom. Then, you fill the slit with natural peanut butter, dark chocolate, and walnut halves. Air fry all that deliciousness at 400 Farenheight for five to six minutes. Top with a sprinkle of cinnamon and a scoop of yogurt (or, come on, ice cream for the rest of us dairy guzzlers) and voila! Edible bliss.

Watch this and tell us you aren’t dying to take a bite along with Ms. Jones.

If you follow her recipe to the letter (and forego our suggestion of a hearty scoop of ice cream on top), you’ll only be ingesting around 350 calories (compared to 800 or more for a restaurant-style banana split). But, let’s be real: if you’re a sweet tooth like us, calories don’t matter as long as the flavor lights up your taste buds.

Bon appétit!
