NEW YORK, NY - APRIL 12: In this photo illustration, a meatless 'Impossible Slider' sits on a table at a White Castle restaurant, April 12, 2018 in the Queens borough of New York City. The meatless burgers, which sell for $1.99, are about twice the size of White Castle's regular sliders. The patties, made primarily of wheat protein and potato, are the first plant-based burgers sold in an American quick-serve restaurant. (Photo illustration by Drew Angerer/Getty Images)

White Castle Hires 100 Robots to Flip Burgers And There Goes Your First Job After Dropping Out of High School

The robots are taking over. First, the automatons stole jobs preparing and serving food to reporters at the Beijing Olympics. Now, they’re hitting up White Castle for gigs.

Yes, the little burger hut you know and love that serves those greasy so-bad-they’re-good sliders is outsourcing some of its jobs to AI. One hundred locations of the fast-food chain will be inundated with Miso Robotics’ “Flippy 2,” which is basically a robotic fry cook.

“By taking over the work of an entire fry station, Flippy 2 alleviates the pain points that come with back-of-house roles at quick-service restaurants to create a working environment for its human coworkers that maximizes the efficiency of the kitchen,” Miso Robotics said in a statement. “The improved workflow allows for the redeployment of team members to focus on creating memorable moments for customers.”

It’s bad enough that fry cook jobs generally only pay minimum wage. Now those gigs – lame though they may be – will soon be eliminated. So much for that first summer job or that high-school drop-out backup plan.

Stay in school, kids. Robots are already smarter than you and they’re less of a pain in the ass to work with.
