Meanwhile in Tennessee: Pastor Burns Harry Potter and Twilight Books in Giant Bonfire Video, Begging Children to Ponder ‘What Is a Book?’

Burning books is about as old a practice as burning witches, but try telling that to Pastor Greg Locke of Global Vision Bible Church in Mount Juliet, Tennessee. The far-right leader recently encouraged his followers to gather “demonic” reading material like the Harry Potter and Twilight books for a massive bonfire in the church parking lot.

If you’re thinking what we’re thinking (“Young people still read physical books?!”), don’t worry. Locke covered his bases. He also asked people to bring other “evil garbage” including tarot cards, voodoo dolls, and crystals to the event.

“Bring all your Harry Potter stuff. Laugh all you want haters. I don’t care. IT’S WITCHCRAFT 100 PERCENT,” Locke said in an Instagram post (for which he didn’t even bother to find a fire photo without a watermark on it). “All you ‘Twilight’ books and movies. That mess is full of spells, demonism, shape-shifting and occultism.”

The Pastor live-streamed the event on Facebook – because that’s not the devil’s playground or anything.

“We have a constitutional right and a Biblical right to do what we’re going to do tonight,” the pastor said during the event. “We have a burn permit, but even without one a church has a religious right to burn occultic materials that they deem are a threat to their religious rights and freedoms and belief systems.”

But the joke was on him, because an anti-protester showed up and threw a Bible into the flames. We’d say “touché,” but something tells us Locke isn’t well-read enough to know what that means.
