A Golden Retriever In Scotland Gave Birth To A Green Puppy

Sometimes you cross paths with something that you just need to take a step back and take in because it’s so damn rare. An albino deer would be a good example of that, as would a Raiders fan without a felony on his record. Or maybe it’s a wife in Wisconsin who doesn’t yell at her husband. Or maybe it’s a green puppy.

Wait, what?

That’s right, kids. According to UPI, a golden retriever in Scotland named Rio recently gave birth to a litter of nine puppies. Eight of them came out with the usual golden fur, but one of them looked like Gazoo from The Flintstones.

Louise Sutherland and her family decided to name the puppy Forest, and while the rest of his siblings will eventually find different homes, Forest will be staying put in the Sutherland house.

When a Spanish breeder’s litter of hunting dogs included two puppies born with green fur several years ago, it was determined that the cause of the condition was exposure to biliverdin, which of course is a green bile pigment found in the placenta that sounds beyond gross.
