Actor Paul Sorvino Dies at Age 83 (Goodbye to Another Goodfella)

Another Goodfella has left this earthly coil. We’re talking this time about Paul Sorvino, the actor best known for starring in Martin Scorsese’s classic 1990 mob flick alongside Ray Liotta, Robert De Niro, and Joe Pesci. Sorvino played Paul Cicero of the Lucchese crime family.

Sorvino made his silver screen debut back in 1970 in the dark comedy “Where’s Poppa?” His career, which spanned over 50 films, included other notable roles like Eddie Valentine in The Rocketeer (1991), Henry Kissinger in Nixon (1995), and Fulgencio Capulet in Romeo + Juliet (1996). His TV work included series like Law & Order. He even performed on Broadway and was nominated for a Tony.

According to the actor’s publicist Roger Neal, Sorvino died of natural causes on Monday. His wife Dee Dee Sorvino, an Emmy Award-winner, was by his side. “Our hearts are broken, there will never be another Paul Sorvino,” she wrote in a statement.

Daughter and fellow actor Mira Sorvino memorialized her dad on Twitter.

“My father the great Paul Sorvino has passed,” she wrote. “My heart is rent asunder- a life of love and joy and wisdom with him is over. He was the most wonderful father. I love him so much. I’m sending you love in the stars Dad as you ascend.”

Paul Sorvino is the latest of the Goodfellas to pass away this year. Ray Liotta preceded him in death on May 26, 22. For those keeping track, that leaves Pesci and De Niro.

We wish we could give you a roundup of the best Sorvino GIFs, but much of his best work preceded GIF culture. Alas. RIP, Paul Sorvino. Here’s hoping you’re entertaining everyone in the next realm.
