A Florida Man Spent 90 Days In Jail Because Police Thought Drywall Powder In His Car Was Cocaine

Normally, a “Florida Man” story goes viral because it features a dude punching his clown in Burger King, a guy trying to eat off another guy’s face or a homeowner having sex with his pit bull in front of his neighbors.

Well, this “Florida Man” is pretty much the exact opposite.

According to CBS Detroit, an innocent Oviedo man spent 90 days behind bars earlier this year after police pulled him over in March and thought a white powder in his car was cocaine. A K-9 unit was brought to the scene and the dog “alerted” on Kevin Cashe’s car, so a further test was done on the substance, and sure shit, the test came up positive for snout candy.

Despite what was unfolding in front of him, Cashe maintained his innocence and told officers the white substance was drywall powder.

“I know for a fact (that) it’s drywall because I’m a handyman,” Cashe said. “I said that continuously during the arrest stop.”

Oviedo police weren’t buying his story, and given the “fact” that Cashe was on probation at the time on drug charges from 2015, he was “put in handcuffs when court records showed he was out past his court-ordered curfew.”

The problem with that? You guessed it: Police realized hours later that the system hadn’t been updated and Cashe had actually not violated his curfew. Oh and the cocaine on his seatbelt and floor? Yup, that turned out to be drywall and not booger sugar, and it took police…wait for it…90 days to figure that out, meaning that Cashe spent about three months behind bars for no reason.

It’s unknown if any members of the Oviedo K-9 unit can smell a lawsuit coming in the near future.
