GRiZ Comes Out as Gay In Inspiringly Candid Op-Ed

As LGBT Pride Month kicks off, it’s nice to see a new voice speak up in the music community, especially from an often under-represented male perspective.

GRiZthe popular DJ and producer behind such EDM hits as “Good Times Roll” and “The Anthem”, opened up up about his sexuality this week in an inspiring op-ed published by the Huffington Post.

Known for his bring down the house performances and saxophone play, GRiZ’s candid contributing piece by talks about his childhood growing up in the Detroit suburbs, “I played sports, was dedicated to my school work, had friends, loved Britney Spears, and discovered a deep interest and safe haven within music. But, as you may or may not know, even in the most stable of environments, the struggle of coming to grips with your sexuality can dominate your world. And for me, it did.”

Griz describes his personal struggles with identity and depression, but also goes into detail about how he found a way out of it by looking in, “Never ever give up on yourself. It might not be cool to love Britney Spears, study AP physics or play saxophone but, it’s totally cool to be gay.”
