Halle Berry‘s ex-husband, Olivier Martinez, has one wish for their son, Maceo. Recently, the French actor retained temporary primary physical custody of their 13-year-old son. He later shared his hopes for the family’s future.
Speaking outside the courthouse after the ruling, Martinez said, “What I wanted is peace… peace for my son. He has [gotten] through a lot. Too much.”
In an interview with ExtraTV, Martinez said, “I truly hope Maceo and his mother will be able to have a better relationship in the future. I don’t want my son to hate his mom. I want him to love her. I want him to forgive her. And I want them to reconciliate in some sort at one point.”
Martinez accused Berry of physically abusing Maceo, an allegation the actress has vehemently denied. Berry said, “I have never physically, emotionally, or otherwise abused Maceo. I am a victim of domestic violence, and I help victims of domestic violence. I am not a perpetrator of violence. I would never hurt our child.”
Where Halle Berry and Olivier Martinez stand after the custody ruling
Following the October 29, 2026, hearing before Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Shelley Kaufman, the former couple’s temporary custody arrangement remains in place (via People). Judge Kaufman tossed out Martinez’s request for a permanent domestic violence restraining order against Berry. She also dissolved the temporary restraining order (TRO) issued earlier that month.
The existing temporary custody arrangement also remained in place, leaving Martinez with primary physical custody of Maceo. Under the active order, Berry is not permitted to have overnight visits with Maceo.
Although the former couple retains joint legal custody, Berry reportedly holds tie-breaking authority for specific decisions. Berry was also ordered to attend counseling sessions with Maceo to help repair their relationship.
However, this current arrangement is temporary. The court is expected to revisit the custody arrangement in November 2026.
