The Mongoose has arrived in theaters today, October 30, 2026. It is an action thriller film directed by Mark Vanselow, with a screenplay by Thompson Evans. In addition to Neeson and Tomei, the film also stars Ving Rhames, Michael Chiklis, and Maurice Marvel Meredith.
What to know about Liam Neeson’s new action thriller The Mongoose
The Mongoose follows Ryan “Fang” Flanagan (Neeson), a former Special Forces soldier and war hero. He suffers from PTSD caused by his guilt over failing to save his comrade Wiz from the Taliban during their service in Afghanistan. Meanwhile, his struggle to let go of his past causes his marriage to Tara (Tomei) to fall apart. However, the two still share a close bond.
Tara ends up in the hospital after her new boyfriend Todd physically abuses her. She turns to Fang for help, who promises to retrieve her clothes from Todd’s house without any violence. However, upon reaching his house, Fang and Todd have a heated altercation which leads to the latter’s death. Despite it being self-defense, Fang knows he’ll face murder charges. He decides to take off in Todd’s vintage Shelby Cobra Super Snake.
What follows is a high-speed cross-country car chase. Fang makes his way toward the Mexican border while being pursued by authorities, including an Arkansas Highway Patrol leader and Major Walter Pope.
In a recent interview with ComingSoon’s Tyler Treese, Neeson recalled filming The Mongoose’s car chase scenes.
“I’m not into cars. I’ve never been into speed, still not,” the actor shared. “But this is the 30th project I’ve done with Mark [Vanselow]. His first as a director in the hot seat, as it were. I totally trusted him, and I knew he would take care of the action sequences and me in this car.”
Neeson added, “And scary too, especially going down highways in the wrong direction with stunt drivers coming towards you.”
