Léa Seydoux’s Shocking Thriller Movie With Great Reviews Is Now Playing in Theaters

Léa Seydoux is back in theaters today with her shocking new thriller movie. Gentle Monster, written and directed by Corsage director Marie Kreutzer, opens in select theaters nationwide today, October 30, 2026.

Gentle Monster competed for the Palme d’Or at its world premiere in the main competition of the 79th Cannes Film Festival on 15 May 2026. It received generally positive reviews, with special praise for Seydoux’s performance. On review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, it holds a 68% critical approval score.

One critic, Peter Travers for The Travers Take, praised Seydoux’s performance, writing, “As a wife and mother whose husband is accused of an unspeakable crime, Léa Seydoux gives a performance that deserves all the raves it’s getting. She can move from hope to dread, and all stops in between without uttering a single word.”

Another critic, Robert Kojder of Flickering Myth, also praised the film: “Gentle Monster succeeds in demonstrating the quiet shock and unthinkable pain from that revelation, in part due to an outstanding Léa Seydoux.”

Marie Kreutzer brings a chilling mystery to the screen with Gentle Monster

A co-production of Austria, Germany, and France, Gentle Monster tells the story of concert pianist Lucy (played by Seydoux), who has just relocated her family to a country house hoping to ease her husband Philip’s (played by Laurence Rupp) severe burnout.

But before the couple can even settle into their new home, an unexpected early-morning police visit tears their lives apart. Trapped between the man she loves and fear of what he may have done, Lucy must face it alone as her world unravels.

The film also features a stellar cast. Alongside Seydoux and Rupp’s Jella Haase, the cast includes Malo Blanchet, Anton Rubtsov, Nils Strunk, Sylvester Groth, Patrycja Ziółkowska, Regina Fritsch, Catherine Deneuve, Rainer Doppler, Katharina Lorenz, Baran Sönmez, Filipe Repak, Sara Sukarie, and Sami Loris.

You can now catch Gentle Monster in theaters.
