One of Ryan Murphy’s most thrilling Netflix shows has added some serious star power to its second season. The second season of The Watcher is moving forward nearly four years after the first season premiered. Netflix has announced that Madelaine Petsch, Evan Adams, Owen Painter, and Quintessa Swindell will join The Watcher Season 2 as series regulars.
Petsch is best known for playing Cheryl Blossom in Riverdale. Painter also starred in another Murphy project, The Shards. Elsewhere, Adams has been in films like Valley of the Shadow. Swindell appeared in Prime Target, Black Adam, and more.
The Watcher, starring Naomi Watts and Bobby Cannavale, premiered in 2022. Although critics gave the first season mixed reviews, the series attracted a sizable Netflix audience and was renewed for a second season. Season 1 followed the Brannock family as they moved into a suburban home and began receiving threatening letters from someone known as “The Watcher.” The series spent five weeks on Netflix’s Global Top 10 English TV list and reached the Top 10 in more than 90 countries.

What we know about The Watcher Season 2 so far
Plot details of The Watcher Season 2 are being kept under wraps. Netflix has confirmed that the new season will continue after the first season’s ambiguous finale, following the Brannock family again. The first season never identified the Watcher, reflecting the fact that the real-life case remains unsolved.
Jennifer Coolidge will also return as Karen Calhoun, alongside the actors reprising their roles as members of the Brannock family. The second season also brings back Margo Martindale as Maureen. Netflix announced that Season 2 will enter production this fall in New York.
The Watcher was created by Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan, with the latter serving as showrunner. The upcoming season is executive produced by Murphy, Brennan, Watts, Crystle Roberson Dorsey, Nissa Diederich, Karl Frankenfield, Scott Robertson, Todd Kubrak, Tanase Popa, Henry Joost & Ariel Schulman, Max Winkler, Eric Newman, and Bryan Unkeless.
The series is based on Reeves Wiedeman’s New York Magazine article, “The Haunting of a Dream House” by Reeves Wiedeman. Netflix did not announce a release date for The Watcher Season 2.
