Chet Hanks and Brenda Song‘s entertaining sitcom is bringing a familiar face from The Office into its upcoming Season 3. The new addition has been a key creative force behind the Netflix show and will now appear on screen in a recurring role.
Running Point has added Mindy Kaling to its Season 3 cast. The Office star co-created the Kate Hudson-led series and serves as a writer and executive producer. The 47-year-old will play Divya, the outspoken and confident CEO of a popular gambling app.
Divya shares Isla’s distinction as a woman leading a male-dominated business. However, their similarities end there, as Divya becomes a thorn in Isla’s plans throughout the season.
Kaling is known for The Mindy Project, Never Have I Ever, The Sex Lives of College Girls, Not Suitable for Work, and more.
Kate Hudson to make her TV directorial debut with Running Point season 3
In addition to the casting news, Netflix also announced that Hudson will direct the first episode of Season 3. This marks the two-time Oscar nominee’s television directorial debut. She previously directed the 2007 short film Cutlass, which she also wrote for Glamour magazine’s Reel Moments series.
Hudson and Kaling will now share the same screen, alongside returning cast members Chet Hanks and Brenda Songs. Drew Tarver, Scott MacArthur, Fabrizio Guido, Toby Sandeman, and Justin Theroux will also reprise their roles, while Ken Marino and Jay Ellis return in recurring roles.
Running Point Season 3 follows the success of the show’s first two installments. According to the streamer, the two seasons cumulatively accumulated over 75 million views. As of writing, the series holds an 82% Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Production on Season 3 is currently underway in Los Angeles. David Stassen returns as showrunner, while Kaling, Stassen, and Ike Barinholtz serve as writers and executive producers. Hudson, Howard Klein, Jeanie Buss, and Linda Rambis also serve as executive producers.
A premiere date is yet to be announced.
