Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are reportedly in full support of Charles Spencer’s new memoir about Princess Diana, as they believe it could help explain their “Megxit” move. Spencer is set to release the memoir, titled “Swan Song: Diana, My Sister,” on September 22, 2026.
The book will reportedly cover Diana’s childhood, her marriage to King Charles and her life within the Palace. The Sussexes are said to be particularly supportive of the memoir, as they believe it could offer insight into why they stepped down as senior working royals in 2020.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry say Diana memoir ‘helps explain why they left,’ per source
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry reportedly believe that the new memoir about Princess Diana could help explain why they left the royal world and built independent lives away from the monarchy. The book is written by Charles Spencer, Diana’s younger brother, and is expected to contain several bombshell claims that could generate headlines.
While William is reportedly upset about the memoir, Harry’s reaction is said to be completely different. A source told Rob Shuter that the Duke of Sussex “feels completely vindicated.” When Harry released his own memoir, “Spare,” and aired his grievances against his family, he was accused of betraying them. Now, Spencer is reportedly describing aspects of life within the Palace that Harry deeply recognizes.
The Sussexes allegedly believe that the story could show what happens when the Palace protects itself instead of protecting the person at the center of the situation. A source said, “To them, this book doesn’t just revisit Diana — it helps explain why they left. They’re saying, ‘This is exactly what we’ve been talking about.’”
Moreover, Harry and Meghan are reportedly not worried about the turmoil the memoir could cause within Palace circles. Instead, they have been cheering Spencer on. Harry, in particular, reportedly believes that his mother couldn’t say much and was silenced while she was alive.
Hence, he does not appear concerned about whether the revelations make the Palace uncomfortable. The insider said, “He believes Charles Spencer is defending Diana, not attacking the monarchy.” In Harry’s eyes, if the Palace is not comfortable with the truth, then that is their problem.
