Freeze Your Booze: Frozen Cocktails Worth Trying

I’m here to admit something. This is very hard for me, but I feel like it’s important that you know. I’m a thirty-something man and I still love Fla-Vor-Ice. I buy a giant box in the beginning of the summer and enjoy the magical flavors of lime, grape, orange, tropical punch, berry and strawberry until Labor Day.

I admit that this isn’t normal behavior for an adult, but I just can’t help it. I’ve always loved anything artificially flavored in slushie/popsicle form. I enjoy many a bomb pop as a child and would walk to the local 7-11 to get my Slurpee fix on the regular. The only reason I mowed lawns as a child was to be able to keep up on my Slurpee habit.

The only reasonable way to get my fix without being embarrassed is to do it in frozen cocktail form. In all honesty, you can pretty much take any cocktail and add some ice and blend it up to make a frozen drink version. Obvious some are better than others. I’m not sure I would enjoy a Bloody Mary slushie (although I might).

Frozen Margarita

Ingredients:

  • 2 ounces Tequila
  • 1 ounce Lime juice
  • 1 ounce Triple Sec

Frozen Pina Colada

Ingredients:

  • 3 ounces Pineapple juice
  • 1 ounce rum
  • 1 ounce coconut cream

Preparation: Pour pineapple juice, rum (likely white rum) and coconut cream into a blender with ice. Blend until smooth and pour into a chilled glass. Garnish with a slice of pineapple.

Frozen Daiquiri

Ingredients:

  • 1.5 ounces White rum
  • 1 ounce Lime juice

Beer Float

Ingredients:

  • 1 can of your favorite beer (likely a stout or porter)
  • 2 scoops of your favorite ice cream (Vanilla, chocolate or coffee work best)

Preparation: Pour the beer into a large glass, making sure to leave space at the top. Scoop ice cream into the cup and enjoy. For best results: use a spoon and a straw.

Frozen Old Fashioned

Ingredients:

  • 1.5 ounces Bourbon or Rye
  • 3 dashes of Angostura bitters
