Thief Returns Laptop Containing Images of Grieving Mother’s Deceased Child

A grieving mother has had her laptop returned to her by the very thief who initially stole it.

Lynda Mccance of Bangor, Northern Ireland, issued a desperate plea on Facebook to the unnamed burglar, asking for the laptop to be returned “no questions asked”, as it contained a slideshow of images/videos of her deceased daughter, Chloe, who had recently passed away at just eight years old.

Chloe suffered from a rare degenerative illness called Batten’s Disease, and the burglary took place just a few days following her funeral. The slideshow was created to be played at the funeral, and is what caused Lynda to take to Facebook to ask the burglar to return the laptop in exchange for a small reward.

Last night Lynda updated her Facebook to state that the laptop had been returned to her, writing: “[I] Wanna say a big thank you to everyone who has shared my posts, sent messages, donated money and everything else. You have all helped give me that little bit off faith that there is decent ppl out there.. I now have my laptop bak in my possession…. thanks so much for all your support.”

Speaking to the BBC, Lynda had said that her home was burglarised whilst she and her family went out to get matching tattoos in memory of Chloe. The thief had also stolen Christmas presents and groceries during the robbery, though true to her word, Lynda has not revealed any details of the burglar. After the laptop was retrieved, she said that the act had restored “a little bit” of her faith in humanity.
