The View host Whoopi Goldberg thinks Hunter Biden should lean into the public obsession with his laptop instead of trying to defend himself against trolls.
Goldberg was seen enjoying Hunter’s public response to the trolls, almost as if he was trolling the trolls. She gives Hunter a launching pad to introduce the topic, saying, “I wish he’d say, ‘Now who wants to talk about my computer?’”
Whoopi Goldberg has advice for Hunter Biden and his laptop during The View discussion
Hunter is no stranger to controversies. His June 1 post celebrating his sobriety was overwhelmed with replies and reactions, with Republican supporters claiming that a bag of cocaine found in the White House in 2023 belonged to Hunter. The former president’s son took the comments in his stride and assured the netizens, saying sarcastically, “I would never have forgotten my drugs.”
Goldberg has enjoyed these quips and advised Hunter to snap back with the laptop controversy. “How long did they say that the computer was a problem?” Goldberg asked, leading the conversation towards the massive laptop controversy that has filled the American imagination since the pre-electoral phase in 2020.
Though largely supportive of the best-foot-forward approach that Hunter was taking, host Alyssa Farah Griffin still felt that going to commentator Candace Owens’ podcast, whose host was involved in “some of the worst antisemitic, racist tropes and somebody who has pushed just very dangerous conspiracy theories,” was “a bad use of his time.”
Co-host Sophia Bush, however, had a different view on the subject. She expressed that though these platforms lack any serious efforts in journalism, she believes that boycotting these spaces would “leave a vacuum for the worst misinformation, for the worst racism, for the worst sexism to grow.”
More than a serious suggestion, Goldberg’s comment is a sharp critique of how Americans were distracted and fixated on a laptop before the 2020 elections.
