‘Are You Crazy?’: Whoopi Goldberg Blasts Megyn Kelly for Disgracing Christina Applegate

Whoopi Goldberg and her fellow The View hosts have taken aim at Megyn Kelly after the conservative commentator mocked Christina Applegate over her multiple sclerosis diagnosis. The panel argued that Kelly’s remarks crossed a line by targeting an actress already struggling with health problems.

Megyn Kelly drew backlash after questioning Applegate’s decision to speak publicly about MS. On her show, she criticized the actress for previously advocating for people with the neurological condition before revealing that doctors had diagnosed her incorrectly five years earlier. Kelly called the journey a “wild goose chase” and suggested Applegate was upset because she “no longer gets to be the face of this disease” (via EW).

Goldberg challenged Kelly during Thursday’s Hot Topics discussion, saying that MS does not have one definitive test that can settle every case. She questioned whether Kelly genuinely believed Applegate wanted the diagnosis for attention. “So, let me ask you, ma’am, you think Christina wanted to have MS so she could have a good time?” Goldberg then asked Kelly, “Are you crazy?”

The host also pointed out that Kelly had overlooked an important detail shared by a neurologist about the condition. As per the doctor, “the misdiagnosis of this disease is common” because no single test can confirm it. Instead, Goldberg added, doctors rely on a “list of criteria” to determine whether someone has the disease.

Sara Haines also defended Applegate, stressing that the actress is “hurting” even without a clear explanation for her symptoms. Haines described Kelly’s remarks as an attack on someone who’s already “down” and accused the commentator of putting politics ahead of compassion. She also questioned why anyone would want to become the public face of a “debilitating neurological” illness. Referring to Kelly, Haines said that she ”has sunk so low in my book.“

Ana Navarro refused to give Kelly more attention than necessary, comparing her to a “fungus” that thrives on “outrage.” Navarro connected the discussion to her husband, Al Cardenas, who has Parkinson’s disease.
