The View is reportedly considering changes to its opening segment to accommodate Joy Behar as she recovers from a dislocated shoulder. The 84-year-old co-host has been absent from the ABC daytime talk show since October 1 following a fall at the network’s New York studios. According to sources, producers are discussing ways to make the set safer for her return.
Joy Behar’s injury leads to ‘serious talk about changing the entire opening’ of The View, per source
An insider familiar with The View’s production told The U.S. Sun that the team is considering having the co-hosts seated at the table before filming begins. “There’s serious talk about changing the entire opening of The View so the ladies are already seated at the table when the cameras start rolling,” the source said.
The insider added, “That way, Joy wouldn’t have to walk out anymore.” The show traditionally begins with the co-hosts walking onto the set before taking their seats. However, concerns about Behar’s stability on her feet have reportedly prompted discussions about changing the routine.
This would not be the first adjustment made for Behar’s comfort. After she broke her toe late last year, the show temporarily began with the co-hosts already seated. The production later returned to its usual opening sequence.
Joy Behar also missed a live taping of The View’s official podcast, Behind the Table, in New York City. Although she was initially listed among the participants for the event at City Winery, she was absent following her on-set injury. A show representative told Page Six that Behar had caught a heel backstage but was recovering. The source also shared that her shoulder was not broken and had been put back in place.
Meanwhile, Behar’s absence has been extended twice as she continues recovering from her shoulder injury. During the October 20 episode, Whoopi Goldberg informed viewers that Behar would not be returning just yet, despite an earlier indication that she might be back that week.
Behar also took time off in 2025 after she injured her foot and experienced a fall at home in 2023.
