iPhone 6 Sales Went Past 10 Million in its Opening Weekend, Apple Confirms

As predicted the iPhone 6 sold huge numbers during its opening weekend, with Apple confirming that it had shifted over 10 million units.

In a statement released to the press, Apple CEO Tim Cook said: “Sales for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus exceeded our expectations for the launch weekend. While our team managed the manufacturing ramp better than ever before, we could have sold many more iPhones with greater supply and we are working hard to fill orders as quickly as possible.”

This is a new record for Apple, beating the releases of its previous iPhone models and making it the most successful opening weekend for a smartphone in history. As per usual, people lined up outside of Apple Stores worldwide prior to its release, rushing to get their hands on the iPhone 6 and the larger iPhone 6 Plus.

The devices will soon be brought to more regions, too, meaning that the total sales figures for the hardware only stand to increase in their millions. The press release continues: “iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus will roll out worldwide to more than 20 additional countries on September 26, including Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Ireland, Isle of Man, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Turkey and United Arab Emirates. iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus will be available in 115 countries by the end of the year.

It has not yet been revealed the individual sales for both models of the iPhone 6, though it seems that many are opting for the larger, more expensive iPhone 6 Plus, which features a 5.5-inch screen compared to the 4.7-inch screen of the standard iPhone 6.
