This Canadian Cocktail Features An Actual Human Toe In It

Have you ever been at a bar and thought, “Man, I sure could use a drink with a human toe in it,”? Well, Canada has just what you’re looking for.

According to Metro.US, the Sourtoe Cocktail has actually been around since the 1970s, but somehow this is the first time we’re hearing about it. It also helps that the cocktail has been getting more and more attention throughout the years.

So what in the hell is the Sourtoe Cocktail? Well it’s honestly just a shot of whiskey. But what puts this one on the map is that bartenders at Sourdough Saloon in Dawson City’s Downtown Hell in Yukon, dehydrate a toe, pickle it, store it in salt and then just add it to said shot of whiskey.

If you’re brave enough to drink this bizarre cocktail (your lips has to touch the toe) you get inducted into the Sourtoe Cocktail club and even receive a certificate.

But of course, do you swallow the thumb or you may be fined $500 (you’re also bashed by everyone, you know, for being an idiot).

The Sourdough Saloon usually gets the Sourtoe Cocktail toes from people who’ve lost them to frostbite, lawnmower accidents or surgery, according to The Canadian Press. Apparently, the bar is always open to donations since a handful of toes have been stolen or swallowed over the years.

And on Friday, it was reported that one British man, Nick Griffiths, is donating three of his to the saloon. They were amputated just last month after he got frostbite during the Yukon Arctic Ultra sled dog race back in February.

“It would be quite a novelty one day … to say ‘your granddad’s toe is in a bar in Canada,” Griffiths told The Canadian Press.

And since I can barely drink whiskey without going into convulsions, I think it’s best I stay away from drinking anything that has a human finger in it.

What do you think? Would you give this a shot?
