Thot: Where Did The Term Come From?

Rappers always liked inventing new terms and phrases that they could use exclusively and separate themselves from the mainstream or other generation rappers. One of the newest and frequently used terms in rap today is certainly thot, but what does it mean? Is it something that only true rappers will understand so we shouldn’t bother? It’s really not. The only problem is that it’s a slightly derrogatory term, so think whether it’s wise to use it and when. We will give you all the information we could find on it, but ultimately it’s up to your discretion whether or not you like it.

What Does Thot Mean?

To put it simply, thot is an abbreviation that means “that hoe over there.” Yes, it’s as simple as that. As always, Urban Dictionairy has a number of colorful definitions for this term, so let’s take a look at some of them. According to one user, this term is used for girls in school (hopefully high school at least) that have slept with half the school and have pictures/videos to prove it. Another user compared the term thot to a phrase neighborhood bicycle because the whole neighborhood has been riding them. However, most of them agree that this starts off at an early age. Thots are girls who act older because they think it’s cool and become promiscuous early on. Showing breasts, ass, and a naked stomach is a must for every thot.

Is It Positive or Negative?

So, when should you use this term, if ever? Well, it depends on who you ask. Most people would agree that it is a derogatory term used to humiliate or insult someone. No woman likes to be called a hoe, right? However, there is one exception to this rule. It is ok to say this jokingly to a very close friend, of course, as long as she takes it like a friendly tease and not a heavy insult that it is. In any other situation, you should really refrain from using such a term as it brings nothing but problems.

Thot in Music

Of course, considering how the term itself originated in rap music, it’s only natural that there are a number of songs that mention thots. Here are just a couple of them.

The Game – T.H.O.T.

The Game uses this term quite heavily and blatantly to label his rival’s girl as someone who’s been around. The idea is that by insulting her, he is actually insulting him indirectly but quite heavily.

Wash – Can’t Trust Thots

Wash is much more direct when attacking with his lines. He is under the impression that thots are the same as fairweather friends. They are only there when the times are good and when they can get something from you. As soon as the money’s gone so are they.

John Boy, Kayleb, and Yung Cyph – Thot Walk

In a song by John Boy, Kayleb and Yung Cyph, a thot is a girl who would do anything to get more likes on social media. Thots have no personality, they just show off their bodies and expect people to admire them. Quite a criticism.

Uncle Murda – Thot

Uncle Murda’s song Thot is about disappointment when he found out that the girl he liked was just a “hoe.” He says that he almost made her his wife, but then he found out who she really was. It’s an old tale of betrayal and disappointment we’ve all experienced at a certain point in our lives.

Now that you know what thot means, do you think you’ll be able to use it somewhere? Give us an example.
