There’s a new addition to the things that we never once thought about before but will now keep us up at night. We’re talking about the question of what happens if you die and you have a bunch of piercings?

Nose ring, earrings, lip ring, tongue ring, gauges, whatever. Luckily, like with anything (even the strangest topics), there’s a specialist on TikTok to explain away all of our questions. When it comes to this question, we’re talking about the TikToker who is an autopsy technician named Gerald Ledford.

Under the TikTok handle of @big_led73, Ledford has amassed an audience of 1.4 million followers. It’s not surprising to us. While morbid, can you think of many things more fascinating than the life of an autopsy technician? We can’t.

Well, Ledford took to the social media platform to answer a few questions about his job recently. One follower asked what happens to piercings when someone dies. Do they take them all out or let people go into the afterlife with their beloved piercings?

According to Ledford, they don’t go throughout your body searching for piercings and removing them. They really only look for one piercing in particular and remove it: a tongue ring.

If you happen to have a tongue ring, they remove it to be sure you didn’t bite down on it or to see if the person who died had drugs in the back of their throat. Otherwise, they leave everything else including nipple rings, earrings, and nose rings. See, we told you it would be morbid.
