Meanwhile in Thrifting: Couple Finds Thousands of Fingernails in Sofa (And Yes, There’s a Picture)

It’s understood that when you buy something secondhand, you assume certain risks. The item in question is likely old. Though the owners might call it “gently used,” it’s probably pretty worn down. There are invisible stains and stenches and who-knows-what-else embedded in said item. But one couple in Ireland got a truly unnerving surprise after taking home a used sofa…and finding “thousands” of human nails under the couch cushions.

“Seeing all that was like something out of a horror film, it was so gross,” 29-year-old Jess Taylor told Kennedy News.

She had been looking for a new sofa after her dog “destroyed” her previous one by jumping on it. (Must be some dog.) Because of budget constraints, she bought an “environmentally friendly” davenport. All was well until a week later, when the TV remote got lost in the couch cushions. While searching for it, Taylor’s boyfriend happened upon a huge collection of candy wrappers and nails.

“Upon inspection and multiple gags later, we retrieved not hundreds but THOUSANDS OF FINGER NAILS of varying sizes,” she wrote in a Facebook post on the stomach-churning discovery.

Initially, she did not include a photo of the sickening stash, but of course, people were curious, and she finally relented.

Holy barf bag, Batman.

The next time your significant other tries to talk you into an upcycled sofa (even if it is vintage), please show them this photograph. (You’re welcome?)
