Even if you’re not into the whole street-racing game, common sense would tell you that the first rule of street racing is probably something along the lines of making sure the guy you’re challenging is not a cop.

Well, according to WJAX, a 40-year-old Indiana man was arrested Saturday night after he was driving a Dodge Charger on Indiana State Road 39 and tried to get another Dodge Charger to race him.

The driver of the other Dodge Charger? You guessed it – Deputy Jim Fish of the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office.

Fish said that as he was driving his unmarked police vehicle, he saw Eugene Thome behind the wheel of his Dodge Charger “drifting in and out of lanes at speeds exceeding 70 m.ph.” in an effort to get him to race. Pretty much the exact opposite happened when Fish turned on his lights and sirens and pulled over Thome.

Fish said Thome initially tried to flee the scene on foot but finally obeyed his orders to stop. It turns out Thome had a pretty good reason to run, as he was “wanted on a felony warrant.” Thome was also deemed a “habitual traffic violator” and was arrested on a slew of charges, including two counts of resisting law enforcement.
