Album Premiere: UK Electro-Pop Trio Abe Return With ‘From Under This Wing’

Sheffield-based electro-pop trio Abe is due to release their debut album From Under This Wing on Friday (4/15 – preorder) after a series of EP releases, and Crave is giving fans a jump with an exclusive advance listen.

Abe is made up of twin brothers Oliver and Tom and close friend Matt, a six-year effort that now finds the trio splitting time between their home studio base in Sheffield and Liverpool/Newcastle. From Under This Wing was entirely self-produced and mixed, without the burden of budgeting pressure with a major studio.

“Early on we joked about using the idea of a fictitious island as the conceptual armature on which we would base the album,” the band tells Crave, “looking for something lighter and more natural than our previous work. As often happens with these things the joke became a reality and started informing our compositions. Rather than it being a strict template, we used it as a tool when we were stuck to help us give narrative, structure and cohesion to the songs. The lyrical content however sits above this, somewhere else.”

Shades of Talk Talk, Paul Simon, Kate Bush, Prefab Sprout and Joni Mitchell are peppered constellations of influence in their sky, as the sounds on From Under This Wing move from the ambient claustrophobia of an epic 80s film score through a Burning-Man-at-3am level of psychedelic enchantment.
