Christina Ricci Signs on For Netflix’s Wednesday Addams Spinoff, Our Favorite Bad Girl Is All Grown Up

Anyone who’s seen any installment of the Addams Family franchises has a favorite character, and if you’re even close to cool, that favorite character is Wednesday Addams. The goth-like, gloomy, and deadpan hilarious little girl is the highlight of her creepy family and all its entertainment endeavors. No one played Wednesday Addams better than Christina Ricci, who appeared in the 1990s-era Addams Family films directed by Barry Sonnenfeld.

Now, Ricci is back in a new Netflix series called Wednesday, a live-action spinoff directed by Tim Burton that’s focused on the titular character. While Jenna Ortega has been cast as the doom-and-gloom bad girl, Ricci will “be a major part” of the show, according to Deadline. “She plays a new character and not an older version of Wednesday,” writer Nellie Andreeva revealed.

The series is still filming in Romania (of all places), but should wrap by the end of this month. Then the coming-of-age comedy, which covers Wednesday’s tenure at Nevermore Academy, heads to Netflix. “It’s described as a sleuthing, supernaturally infused mystery,” according to Deadline.

We can’t wait to see how Wednesday has evolved – and what kind of trouble she’ll get up to. Here’s hoping Ortega’s interpretation rivals Ricci’s, while still leaving room for Ricci to shine.
