Bond girl Eva Green‘s debut in Netflix’s “Wednesday” is off to a shaky start. Green, officially playing Aunt Ophelia Frump on the “Addams Family” spinoff, reportedly suffered an on-set injury when she was rushed to the hospital.
Green was recently inducted into the Wednesday cast as Aunt Ophelia, sister to Morticia Addams (played by Catherine Zeta-Jones) and aunt of the titular clairvoyant teen Wednesday (played by Jenna Ortega). Her casting has ended the extended anticipation of whether Grammy-winner Lady Gaga, who had earlier cameoed in the show, would graduate into playing the role.
Eva Green recovering after on-set injury
According to The Sun, the actress got injured earlier this month, when she was filming a third season episode near Dublin.
A production source confirmed the seriousness of the accident, saying, “This was really nasty,” adding, “Eva sustained an injury and was clearly in pain, and producers were taking no chances. Medics were called, and Eva went to hospital. She underwent treatment and is now recovering well.”
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Green revealed that she tore a ligament while filming. “Now recovering well,” she said, adding that she is still recovering from the on-set injury.
Green has earlier expressed her excitement with her casting, saying, “I’m thrilled to join the woefully twisted world of Wednesday as Aunt Ophelia,” adding, This show is such a deliciously dark and witty world; I can’t wait to bring my own touch of cuckoo-ness to the Addams family.”
“Eva Green has always brought an exhilarating, singular presence to the screen – elegant, haunting, and beautifully unpredictable. Those qualities make her the perfect choice for Aunt Ophelia. We’re excited to see how she transforms the role and expands Wednesday’s world,” series creators Al Gough and Miles Millar noted.
In the original The Addams Family lore, Aunt Frump is Morticia’s eccentric witch-like relative who occasionally offers guidance to the family. However, as Wednesday has already reimagined several classic Addams Family characters, Eva Green’s take on the role may ultimately differ from earlier portrayals.
