Directed by Zack Snyder, 300 was released on March 9, 2007. Set in 480 B.C. during the Battle of Thermopylae, the film follows King Leonidas of Sparta as he leads 300 soldiers against the massive Persian army commanded by King Xerxes. Xerxes sends his forces to conquer Greece, while Leonidas and his men face the Persians at Thermopylae.

After the battle involving Leonidas and his 300 Spartans, the Persian army led by Xerxes continues toward the Greek city-states. Athens relies on its fleet under Themistocles, who is forced to form an alliance with Sparta despite their rivalry.
Meanwhile, Xerxes maintains an advantage in numbers on land and sea, with Artemisia commanding the Persian navy. The sequel’s cast includes Sullivan Stapleton as Themistocles, Eva Green as Artemisia, Lena Headey as Queen Gorgo, and Jack O’Connell as Calisto, among others.
