King Charles Sends a Message as Prince Harry & Meghan Markle Make Their First UK Outing

King Charles and Queen Camilla visited Cardiff, Wales, amid Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s first public outing since their return to the UK. They were welcomed by two Welsh military regiments. The King’s official harpist, Mared Pugh-Evans, performed ahead of the monarch’s speech in recognition of his connection to Wales.

King Charles and Queen Camilla received a military welcome at Cardiff, Wales, and were then introduced to senior representatives. They included Llywydd (Speaker), Huw Irranca-Davies, and the First Minister of Wales, Rhun ap Iorwerth. The ceremony took place at Siambr (chamber), where the monarch also shared a few kind words about Wales.

He said, “The character and identity of Wales have always been built from the strength of its places and the relationships of trust, service and neighbourliness found within them – that distinctively Welsh idea of cynefin: the profound connection between place, people, culture and belonging.” He said he had always felt grateful to have a deep connection with Wales, including its “language, culture, and landscape.”

“So, as you take forward your task of government, we know you will always bear in mind and will draw inspiration from, those shared strengths as you work on behalf of the people of this most special corner of the Earth,” King Charles continued.

Following the opening ceremony, the King and Queen met members of the Welsh Youth Parliament, Senedd Commissioners, and Members of the Senedd, as well as representatives of community and youth organizations (via PEOPLE).

This comes amid Prince Harry and Markle’s recent visit to Nottingham, a significant place where they first appeared publicly together following their engagement announcement in 2017. Their charity stops included Community Recording Studio, Himmah Food Bank, and Epic Partners.

A royal expert, Helena Chard, accused the couple of trying to regain attention after they left the UK and flew to the US. “It’s definitely a reboot — a pseudo royal reboot,” she said, referring to their latest public appearance.
