A royal expert has claimed that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s recent charity visits have sparked frustration within Buckingham Palace, with their outings allegedly resembling official royal engagements. The couple has faced criticism for creating a sense of royal theater despite stepping down as working royals.
Experts question the Sussexes’ return to royal-style charity visits
Kinsey Schofield told Fox News Digital that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s latest charity visits had reportedly caused frustration within the royal household. “Harry and Meghan are no longer working members of the royal family. King Charles recently reminded his government that the Sussexes are private citizens. The Sussexes appear increasingly determined to recreate the optics of royal life without the responsibilities that come with it,” she said.
Schofield pointed to the couple’s visits, public appearances, and the photographers accompanying them, arguing that the outings resembled royal engagements without the authority associated with official royal duties.
The expert further explained that royal engagements involve more than public appearances and photographs, playing a role in diplomacy and soft power. “Working royals represent the sovereign, strengthen relationships, and serve the interests of the country. Harry and Meghan appear more interested in faking the image of royalty than embracing its purpose,” she continued.
Schofield added that while the Sussexes can imitate the style of royal engagements, they cannot replicate their “authority or constitutional significance.”
Meanwhile, another royal expert, Helena Chard, suggested that the couple is attempting to reclaim the public attention they lost after stepping down from their royal duties in 2020 and relocating to California. She described their latest appearances as “It’s definitely a reboot — a pseudo royal reboot.”
Buckingham Palace previously issued guidance clarifying that Harry and Meghan are private individuals and that their charitable activities are personal rather than affiliated with the royal family.
The couple recently marked their first public engagement in Nottingham, reportedly making three charity stops. Their itinerary included visits to Community Recording Studio, Himmah Food Bank, and Epic Partners, as they continue their charitable work outside the formal structure of the monarchy.
