Watch The First Trailer For ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’

Following the blockbusting success of Star Wars: The Force Awakens in December 2015, Disney and Lucasfilm announced that as well as two more Star Wars films in the works, there would also be three spin-off films set to take place in the same universe as the original saga.

The first of those Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is due for a December 2016 release, and today we’ve been gifted with the first official theatrical trailer for the film. It will be directed by Gareth Edwards and the trailer confirms that the film will feature Star Wars‘ most well-known villain, Darth Vader.

For those wondering about where this latest episode fits in with the chronology of Star Wars, we’ve been told it will take place just before A New Hope (Star Wars Episode IV), whilst Vader was at his prime and during the period that the Death Star was being built.

Typically, the trailer is full of gut-wrenching, feels-generating thematic music; with teasing aspects of John Williams’ Imperial March (Darth Vader Theme) giving off a particularly spine-chilling vibe. In fact, this will be the first Star Wars film not scored by Williams, but if this trailer is anything to go off, French composer Alexandre Desplat is more than up to the task.
