Cara Delevingne has opened up about finding her “real belonging” in queer nightclubs. The 34-year-old model, who identifies as a lesbian, praised these spaces for being among the most accepting places in the world.
Cara Delevingne says she found “real belonging” by being a part of queer nightlife
Delevingne shared her experience during an interview with People at the Club Kid premiere in Los Angeles on November 4. The London-born star said, “It was the first place I found real belonging.”
“When I would just go out, I would feel like I would have to cosplay as being straight or whatever. There was an element of that, especially if you’re not even in the community, but you’re an ally, to be able to go out in that community. It is one of the most accepting places in the world,” she explained.
The model has previously spoken about drawing inspiration from people in the queer community. She shared those thoughts in a promotional video for Calvin Klein. Delevingne said, “There is so much more freedom to be who you want to be, of course, there are still struggles, and there is still so much to fight against, but I get so inspired by people in the queer community.”
Cara has also been candid about finding it difficult to define her sexuality. In a 2022 interview with the BBC, the model, who previously dated actress Ashley Benson, discussed her experience. She said, “I kind of started as bisexual, and then I was pansexual.” Although she felt connected to the LGBTQ+ community, Delevingne admitted that she was unsure how to define her identity.
During a May interview with Variety, Delevingne revealed that she is now “very happy” to identify as a lesbian, although putting a label on her sexuality was not always easy.
