Former royal butler Grant Harrold has shared his thoughts on how Prince William and Kate Middleton might feel about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Christmas plans. He believes the Waleses would be relieved if the Sussexes spent the holidays in the United States. However, newer reports suggest Harry and Meghan could instead celebrate Christmas in the UK with Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland.
Former Butler talks about Prince William and Kate’s reaction to the Sussexes’ plans
Grant Harrold, the former royal family butler, revealed that the Waleses are “breathing a sigh of relief” after learning about the Sussexes’ alleged US plans. He said that as they won’t be in the UK, it could also be perceived as a “get out of jail card” for the monarch. He added, “It’s very different to being poker face in public, it is awkward with family. It would have been such a difficult time” (via Independent).
These remarks come a few weeks after a friend of the Sussexes told the Sunday Times that they won’t be celebrating their Christmas with the royal family. They also wondered how this arrangement could potentially work. Another source told Page Six that no matter where Harry and Markle decide to spend their holidays, either in the UK or the US, the latter’s mother, Doria, is confirmed to be a part of their plans.
“There is a hierarchy and the King is the CEO, he’s the boss — what he says go, so it’s better not to put themselves in any difficult position,” the insider said as to why the couple could prefer avoiding the royal family. Last month, sources told Rob Shuter’s Naughty but Nice that the monarch also looks forward to meeting Harry and Markle ahead of Christmas.
“This is not a casual ‘let’s get together sometime. Nobody drops in on the King. If Harry and Meghan are in Charles’s diary, it is because he wants them there. This is deliberate,” they continued.
