Donald Trump & Melania’s National Archives Walk Sparks Talk for One Visible Reason

Donald Trump and his wife Melania Trump drew attention during a visit to the National Archives after observers noticed the couple walking separately while Chinese President Xi Jinping and his wife, Peng Liyuan, held hands.

The two couples visited the Archives on Friday as part of Xi’s state visit. Photos and footage from the outing prompted online commentary about the contrast between the couples as they made their way up the steps.

Journalist Aaron Rupar highlighted the moment on X after seeing the couples together.

“Xi and his wife hold hands,” he wrote. “Trump and Melania do not.”

Another account, Donk Media, characterized the scene more critically and claimed Melania kept her distance from Trump as they climbed the steps. The report framed the exchange as fueling speculation about the Trumps’ relationship, but it did not establish why Melania and Trump chose not to hold hands.

As per The Mirror US, the moment followed Melania’s recent comments about how demanding schedules had affected family time.

“My husband is working—sometimes he’s in the Oval Office till 9:30 at night, right?” she said during a Fox News interview. “So do you wait that you will have dinner? You don’t, because he’s busy. I’m busy too.”

Melania also acknowledged that the family spent less time together.

“It’s less and less the family time. It’s suffering because of it,” she said, while adding that both she and Trump remained focused on their work.

During the National Archives visit, Trump showed Xi historical U.S. documents, including the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

Trump later told reporters that he and Xi had compared the histories of their countries.

“Ours goes 250 years, which is great, and we’re proud of it. But theirs goes 6,000 years,” Trump said.

Earlier in the day, Donald Trump and Melania Trump hosted Xi and Peng for tea at the White House. Xi thanked them for what he called “the highest courtesies” and “the most meticulous arrangements.”

While the diplomatic visit centered on U.S.-China relations and the National Archives tour, the brief visual contrast between the two couples generated a separate wave of online discussion.
