Nicki Minaj has responded after President Donald Trump publicly praised her, reaffirming her support for the administration despite earlier backlash over her political stance. The exchange highlights how Minaj’s relationship with Trump has evolved in recent years.
Nicki Minaj faced backlash for her support of President Trump
The latest debate arose after an X user shared footage of Trump calling Nicki Minaj his “favorite” as she entered the Oval Office. The president also remarked that the musician had “been with him for a long time.” Minaj responded directly to the post, writing, “Not going anywhere. Right where I need to be,” alongside an emoji of two hands clasped in prayer.
One supporter praised her for being “a part of something that is historical,” while another commended her for being “where [she is] appreciated and loved.”
A fan also called her “Presidential Barbie,” playing on one of Minaj’s familiar nicknames. Another supporter celebrated their shared New York roots, writing, “The Donald and Onika repping Queens to the fullest!”
Critics, however, were less impressed. According to The Mirror, one wrote, “Look at that gaudy, cheap room. It is right where you should be.” Another urged the rapper to return to her music, commenting, “Where you need to be is in the studio ma’am.” A third wrote, “Trump is a racist, you two know wtf ur doing.”
Minaj’s support for Trump marks a significant shift from her previous criticism of the administration’s immigration policies. In 2018, she spoke out against the separation of parents and children at the U.S.-Mexico border. “I came to this country as an illegal immigrant @ 5 years old. I can’t imagine the horror of being in a strange place & having my parents stripped away from me at the age of 5. This is so scary to me. Please stop this,” she wrote on Instagram, as per an old report by Billboard. The statement was made as the Trump administration faced widespread criticism over its family-separation policy.
By January 2026, however, Minaj was publicly supporting Trump and appearing alongside him at a Treasury event. She also described herself as Trump’s “No. 1 fan” in a social media post, highlighting the extent of her political shift since her earlier criticism of his immigration policies.
