Michael Wolff has claimed that Melania Trump avoided some public appearances with Donald Trump when Natalie Harp was present. The Trump biographer made the allegation in a recent post on his Howl newsletter. According to Wolff, Harp’s constant presence around the president was a factor in Melania’s limited appearances alongside him.

Michael Wolff claims Melania Trump avoided some public appearances with Donald Trump when Natalie Harp was present. In his Howl Substack newsletter, the Trump biographer said Harp’s proximity to the president affected when Melania appeared with him. This particularly happened during the 2024 campaign.
Wolff wrote that Melania’s appearances with Trump were carefully arranged. He claimed she would decline to attend events if Harp was there. “Melania, whose appearances with her husband were carefully negotiated and choreographed, would not show up if Harp was around,” he wrote. Wolff added, “Since Harp was always around, Melania never was—appearing with her husband only in the last week of the campaign.”
He also described how Harp allegedly maintained close access to Trump during his 2023 campaign. When Trump moved the operation from Palm Beach to his golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey, Harp reportedly did not have a room. Wolff claimed she slept in the maids’ quarters and later stayed in the women’s locker room to remain near Trump.
“Harp superseded the White House staff and, as well, his wife and family. Nobody got between Harp and Trump. And you only got to Trump by going through Harp,” the biographer noted. Wolff further connected Harp’s presence to Melania’s decision not to move into the White House after Trump returned to office. He claimed, “Other than at ceremonial occasions, or in a strictly official capacity, she has given up the role of wife. Practically speaking, there is no room for her.”
