Amid the legal battles, he appears to be making a major change to his life and career. During a September 14 interview on Today with Jenna & Sheinelle, Perry confirmed his plans. While discussing career plans, he said, “Yep, moving to Puerto Rico at the top of the year, and I’m pulling back a whole lot.” Perry explained that getting older played a major role in his decision. “Getting older [inspired this],” he said. “It’s time to slow down a bit, enjoy more time with my son and just take it all in.”
The move also comes after Perry recently released Why Did I Get Married Again?, the third installment in the franchise. Perry also made it clear that marriage is not part of his plans at this stage of his life. Speaking about whether he would consider getting married, he said, “At this age, no, that’s not a good idea for me. So no, won’t be any marriage for me.”
The career shift comes as Perry continues to face legal battles. According to Complex, Tyler Perry is scheduled to give an in-person deposition on December 9. The deposition is part of a $77 million sexual assault lawsuit filed by actor Mario Rodriguez Jr.
Rodriguez has accused Perry of making repeated unwanted sexual advances and sexually assaulting him during multiple encounters. Perry has denied all the allegations and maintained that the claims are false. A judge recently rejected Rodriguez’s request to make Perry appear for an earlier deposition.
Perry is also defending a separate lawsuit filed by The Oval actor Derek Dixon, who has accused him of sexual harassment and assault. Dixon and Rodriguez are represented by the same attorney, Jonathan Delshad.
