James Bond Casting Race Takes Surprising Turn After Secret Auditions — Source

James Bond‘s search may be moving closer to a decision. Several actors have reportedly completed screen tests for the coveted 007 role. Now, one contender is reportedly gaining momentum in the casting race.

Jack Lowden reportedly pulls ahead in the 007 race

According to RadarOnline, Scottish actor Jack Lowden has emerged as the frontrunner to replace Daniel Craig. The 36-year-old Slow Horses star reportedly auditioned at Bray Studios near London. Callum Turner, Josh O’Connor, and an unidentified fourth actor allegedly joined him.

An insider told the outlet that discussions surrounding Lowden’s chances have recently shifted. “There’s been a noticeable shift in the conversation over the past few days, and Jack’s name is now coming up more than anyone else’s,” the source claimed. The source suggested that Lowden now has a strong chance of securing the role.

The source also praised Lowden’s acting abilities and screen presence. They reportedly believe he could make the iconic character his own. His intensity, sophistication, and charisma could appeal to producers.

Bookmakers have reportedly moved Lowden ahead of his competitors. His odds of landing the role reportedly stand at 8/11. Turner followed at 2/1, while O’Connor reportedly stood at 8/1.

Nicola McGeady of Ladbrokes also commented on the speculation. “The Bond race looks to be reaching crunch time and punters are firmly backing Jack Lowden to get the call,” she said. She identified Turner as his biggest potential rival.

However, the casting decision reportedly remains open. Another source suggested producers could consider a relatively unfamiliar actor. Heartstopper star Jack Barton has also reportedly attracted interest.

Joe Alwyn has also emerged as a rumored contender among fans. Some have pointed to his professional connection with casting director Nina Gold. However, there is no confirmation that he auditioned.

Daniel Craig last played Bond in 2021’s No Time to Die. Amazon MGM Studios has since taken creative control of the franchise. The studio is now preparing to introduce a new actor in the iconic role.

Despite the growing attention around Lowden, no official announcement has been made. Reported auditions and bookmaker odds do not confirm the studio’s decision. For now, Lowden appears to be gaining momentum in the race to become the next James Bond.
