Cliff Curtis Takes The Lead Role In ‘The Walking Dead’ Companion Series

As “The Walking Dead” spinoff (or “companion series”) gets closer to filming its pilot episode, the cast is finally starting to come together.

According to Deadline, veteran actor Cliff Curtis has been cast in the male lead for the currently untitled “Walking Dead” spinoff/companion series, although the report notes that AMC is internally calling the project “Cobalt.”

Curtis will play a divorced teacher who is described as “a good man who tries to do right by everyone in his life.” The female leading role hasn’t been cast yet, but she’s said to be a guidance counselor with two kids. Frank Dillane and Alycia Debnam Carey were signed earlier this week to play the children of that character.

Last season on Fox, Curtis had a starring role in “Gang Related.” He has also appeared in “Body of Proof” and “Missing.”

“The Walking Dead” spinoff/companion series will feature an entirely new set of characters while sharing the post zombie apocalyptic world of the original series. Robert Kirkman and Dave Erickson created the new iteration of the franchise, with Adam Davidson slated to direct the pilot episode.

AMC has yet to formally give a series order to “The Walking Dead” spinoff/companion series. But if it goes forward, it could premiere on AMC in 2015.
