What NBC TV show with Tom Hanks has been renewed for another season?
NBC has ordered Tom Hanks-narrated, widely popular TV show The Americas, reports Deadline. The series tells the untold wildlife stories from the continent, including locations such as the frozen north, the wild west, the Atlantic coast, and Patagonia.
The NBC TV show premiered in 2025 and was initially announced way back in 2020. The second season will focus on new locations and more wildlife moments while going “deeper into the wildlife and majestic landscapes that the supercontinent has to offer”, according to the description. The Americas Season 2 is currently in production.
Interestingly, the news of its renewal comes right before a special titled The Americas: A Wild 250th. It will arrive on NBC on July 2, 2026. There’s another special called The Americas: Mother’s Day, which will have its premiere in 2027.
The Americas is produced by BBC Studios Natural History Unit, in collaboration with Universal Television Alternative Studio. Mike Gunton and Holly Spearing are serving as the executive producers.
“We’re thrilled to bring The Americas back into viewers’ homes, taking them on a journey that reveals even more of the extraordinary worlds, iconic landscapes and remarkable wildlife that make North and South America so compelling — all while blending breathtaking scale, discovery, humor and heart,” said NBC’s EVP, Unscripted Programming, Sharon Vuong.
“The Americas was a bold bet – a cinematic natural history series of this scale hadn’t been seen on broadcast television in years, and thankfully, audiences embraced it in a huge way,” said Universal Television Alternative Studio’s President Toby Gorman.
As for Hanks, the Hollywood star was recently seen in the blockbuster movie Toy Story 5. He voiced the popular character of Woody in the latest installment of the iconic kid-friendly animated franchise.
The Americas Season 2 is expected to premiere sometime in 2028.
