A popular late-night television show that has frequently drawn the ire of Donald Trump has announced a major renewal. The show’s beloved host will remain at the helm through 2028.
On Monday, October 19, Skydance Television and Comedy Central announced that Jon Stewart will continue to host The Daily Show every Monday through December 2028. The comedian will also remain an executive producer of the program.
“Jon Stewart is a generational talent, and The Daily Show continues to be one of the most influential franchises on television and a cornerstone of Comedy Central,” George Cheeks, co-chair and chief content officer of Skydance TV, said in a recent statement. “We are excited to continue our partnership with Jon and his award-winning news team.”
How the show’s hosting duties are split
Jon Stewart will continue hosting The Daily Show with the program’s stellar news team. It includes Ronny Chieng, Josh Johnson, Jordan Klepper, Michael Kosta, Desi Lydic, Troy Iwata, and Grace Kuhlenschmidt. The correspondents will share hosting duties on Tuesdays through Thursdays.
Meanwhile, Stewart will executive produce alongside showrunner Jen Flanz and Stewart’s longtime manager, James “Baby Doll” Dixon.
Stewart has been a longtime critic of Donald Trump, often slamming his policies and remarks. In September, the comedian compared the Trump presidency to the heavily corroded USS Abraham Lincoln.
“This is what we look like as Americans inside after 18 months of this presidency,” the comedian joked, showing a photo of the run-down ship. Criticizing the Trump administration, Stewart added, “It’s this, the relentless denial of reality that is one of the elements eating away at the foundational load-bearing structures that hold this country together.”
Earlier this month, Stewart took aim at Trump’s announcement that AI and tech giants will self-police their actions. “How can you justify letting the tech giants police themselves?” the comedian fumed.
The Daily Show airs weeknights at 11 p.m. ET/PT on Comedy Central. The episodes arrive the next day on Paramount+.
