The buzz is still on for Christian Siriano, who blasted into fashion stardom after winning the fourth season of American design competition show Project Runway, and still stuns as this year’s NYFW hot ticket. Mentored in London by Vivienne Westwood and Alexander McQueen, Siriano launched his iconic collection in 2008.

Siriano has shown his masterly collections in Paris and NY each year presenting retailers a first look at his stellar creations. Whimsical, imaginative and unusual are all adjectives used to describe his unmatched designs, and this year is no exception. From ethereal gowns to every day basics, he immediately was bought up by premier stores in major global capitals. With his rocket to fame, the first flagship Christian Siriano store was launched in New York City in 2012.

The latest collection is inspired by artist Shelia Hicks’ Art of Yarn exhibit. He wowed with dramatic suits and specific evening pieces, from a one-sleeve evening cape jacket and trousers, to an alpaca wrap jacket with iridescent decorative paillette long sleeve top worn over dashing trousers. Siriano has referenced the look as Bowie-inspired androgyny, and for a designer who has consistently evoked femininity, it is a totally intriguing shift.

Siriano is embracing non-gender specific language and focusing on shapes, silhouettes, great fabrics and techniques that transform digitally “knitted fabric looks” onto silk jerseys, cottons and wools. Artistic influences from the fabric world unite Siriano’s transformative materials and lush fabrics, compelling audiences to take a closer look.
