JD Vance is reportedly losing to Marco Rubio for President Donald Trump’s pick in the 2028 presidential election. Vance and Rubio are reportedly the key contenders for the Republican Party’s 2028 presidential nominee. However, Republicans’ major loss to Democrats in the 2026 midterms is said to have changed things for the GOP.
Marco Rubio leads as JD Vance’s future faces fresh scrutiny
According to an analyst and The Sun’s editor-at-large, Harry Cole, Vice President JD Vance’s chances of becoming Donald Trump’s 2026 presidential nominee have taken a hit after the GOP’s midterm loss.
While Trump has praised Vance as a talented personality, the President has not specifically endorsed him as the Republicans’ 2028 presidential nominee. However, the analyst predicts the midterms have made it even harder for Trump to consider Vance.
He said, “Trump plucked J.D. Vance out of obscurity, made him his vice presidential nominee and a global household name. J.D. Vance is up to his neck in this administration. He has been there defending it day in and day out, especially more so in the last four or five weeks.” Cole also suggested that the Republicans who could’ve helped Vance in this quest have “blown apart” after the midterms.
In a recent interaction with reporters after the midterm loss, Trump was asked about Vance’s potential presidential bid for 2028, but he said he didn’t know much about it. Trump said, “I speak to him (Vance) about a lot of things, but I mean, we’ll see what happens. Everybody, you don’t know who’s talking about running. You can have people running; maybe he won’t run. I don’t know who’s going to run.”
Amid speculation about Vance’s 2028 presidential bid, Secretary of State Marco Rubio is reportedly the favorite among Republicans. Trump has also praised Rubio as a “capable” successor, alongside Vance, in the past.
